One of the most commonly asked questions we get at Canadian Carpet Cleaning is how to remove a red wine stain. Whether you’re hosting a party and one of your guests spills their drink or whether your glass was knocked off the dinner table, red wine stains are often a source of panic for many people.

While we can treat your carpets after the fact, it’s best to take action as soon as the red wine is spilled so that you can minimize the stain. We have a couple of solutions for you to try below.

Getting Red Wine Out of Fabrics

Salt

  • Sprinkle a generous amount of salt over the area where the wine was spilled.
  • Best for: Bed spreads, clothes, curtains and couches.
  • This works by absorbing the wine, stopping the stain from spreading and makes it easier to remove the wine stain later.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda

  • Spray hydrogen peroxide on the entire stain and then sprinkle a large amount of baking soda on top and let sit for 2-3 minutes. Rinse with water and wash the fabric in the laundry as usual.

Club Soda

  • Pour the club soda over the stain and let it bubble up, applying until the colour of the stain is gone. Let the fabric dry and then wash as usual.

When you try this methods on carpet, do a small test patch in a discreet area of the room to make sure that it doesn’t affect the colour of your carpet. Blot the area with water to remove the solution.
