It’s that time of the year again – birds are chirping, trees are budding and you can finally put that winter jacket away until next season. But with spring comes spring cleaning, a daunting task that even the most motivated among us comes to dread.

This week on our blog post, we’re giving you some spring cleaning tips to help you get your spring cleaning done as quickly, efficiently and painlessly as possible.

Spring Cleaning Tips:

  • Regardless of which room you begin in, start from the top and work your way down. This ensures you aren’t getting parts of the room dirty that you’ve already cleaned and doubling your work!
  • Do one room at a time. Not only does this make the job feel more manageable, it will help you avoid an unfinished job, not to mention giving you a deep sense of satisfaction when the room is complete!
  • Make an easy, all-purpose cleanser than you can use in multiple rooms. Mix four tablespoons of baking soda with four cups of warm water and you’ll have an all-natural cleanser that will make your kitchen counters and your appliances shine.
  • Clean out the refrigerator and start with one shelf at a time to make the task more manageable. Once you clear off a shelf and trash expired food and condiments, use your handy all-purpose cleanser (from above) to clean the shelves. We suggest using a toothbrush to get into those hard-to-manage spaces.
  • If you have a garbage disposal that’s getting stinky, run a few lemon rinds though it (followed by cold water) to get rid of odours.
  • Unscrew lightbulbs to dust them with a damp microfiber cloth. Just be sure to avoid getting the metal screw base wet.
  • Clean your windows on the inside and outside. For the best results, use a rubber squeegees to get a clean and tidy look that requires a lot less effort than usual cloth or newspaper to polish the surface.
  • Restock your cleaning supplies. You’ll want to make sure you have enough rubber gloves, clothes, towels and brushes to make cleaning as easy as possible. As for cleaning supplies, you should have a good all-purpose cleanser, glass cleaner and specific products for cleaning things like toilets and removing mildew stains from grout.
